How you can help prevent childhood cavities:
- Try to send your child to bed without a bottle. When your baby is asleep, liquids that contain sugar stay around the teeth and can cause decay.
- Encourage chidlren to brush twice daily to remove plaque and bacteria that leads to decay.
- Fluoride strengthens the surface of teeth making them stronger and more resistant to decay, so ensure your children drink fluoridated water and use a fluoride toothpaste suited to their age.
- Take your child to the dentist for regular check ups. Your dentist will be able to advise you on oral health care and detect any signs of disease early.
